TYPES OF VENEERS AND MATERIALS

COMPOSITE VS PORCELIN VENEERS

Composite resin and porcelain are the most commonly used materials in the veneer fabrication process. In the hands of an experienced cosmetic dentist, both materials can beautifully transform your smile. But how do you know which type is right for you? This comes down to your specific needs and which factors are most important to you (cost, treatment time, etc.). Let’s evaluate some of the differences between composite and porcelain veneers.

COMPOSITE

Composite veneers present an attractive choice due to their convenience and affordability.

In contrast to porcelain veneers, they do not necessitate pre-laboratory preparation, enabling your dentist to apply them in just one visit.

This procedure involves the application of a thin layer of tooth-colored resin onto the outer surface of your teeth, effectively concealing tooth stains, filling minor gaps, and enhancing your smile.

Their reduced preparation requirements contribute to a lower cost compared to porcelain veneers. However, the trade-off is their tendency to wear down more quickly, with an average lifespan of four to eight years.

While composite is a sturdy material, it lacks the durability of porcelain, making it more susceptible to wear, chips, and damage, requiring more frequent check-ups.

PORCELAIN

Its natural tooth appearance is a very common reason our patients opt for porcelain veneers.

You can thank the veneers thin and translucent nature for this! Just to top it off, porcelain veneers can be specifically made to match your natural tooth colour and shape. So, to put it simply you can give your mouth a personal smile that suits you!

Another fantastic aspect is their durability, if you give your porcelain veneers the care and love they deserve, you can expect them to last 10-15 years before needing any repairs. How good is that!?

And wait, there’s more! Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant – from coffee and tea to smoking and soft drinks. In fact, bacteria can’t live on a porcelain tooth like it can on a regular tooth! This is one of our personal favs. Who doesn’t love a good coffee without having to stress about staining your teeth?

TITANIUM

  • Titanium implants can come in two-piece varieties, which is helpful if angled implants are needed to correct your implant positioning.
  • The failure rate of titanium implants is thought to be significantly lower than that of zirconia implants.
  • These implants have high resistance to corrosion in the mouth and excellent biocompatibility with the bone and gum tissues

ZIRCONIA

WE ARE ONE OF THE FEW CLNICS IN AUSTRALIA TO OFFER ZIRCONIA

  • Zirconia is compatible with human tissues.
  • Zirconia implants have low bacterial attraction.
  • They have high strength and decent fracture resistance.
  • They hold up against wear and corrosion relatively well.
  • Because the material can be easily colored to match the patient's natural tooth, they have excellent aesthetics, which can be especially crucial when replacing a front tooth
